Just got this book

I only got a chance to thumb through it, but I like what I’ve seen so far. Tom Baker as the 4th Doctor was my first introduction to Doctor Who when I was about 3-4 years old back in the very early 80s. From what I’ve seen I like his writing style. I’ll write an actual review of this book as soon as I’m done with it, but for now I’ve got a backlog of books I’ve yet to read (including a Christmas themed one!).

Anyway, I’m sorry I’ve taken so long to update this blog. Real life has been insanely busy, especially where work is concerned. Now that the dust has settled a bit I’m going to try to update more often, plus edit the posts I’ve imported from Tumblr (need to make my image sizes smaller so I can reclaim some space here).

Fic Rec: Can We Keep Him? (2nd Doctor, Gen)

I’m still in the process of fixing up my episode picspam posts but I wanted to make a quick post to rec a really good fanfic I just read. It’s a one-shot called Can We Keep Him? It features the Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe who end up taking in a cute little kitten onto the TARDIS. This story is so adorable, especially in how Jamie and the Doctor interact with the kitten. There are a few laughs too in how he unexpectedly becomes an asset to them in one of their adventures, and of course a bit of sadness near the end (which is tempered by a really sweet ending).

Please give it a read if you haven’t already. It’s great stuff.

More updates to come

I know I haven’t done much to this blog over the past few days. To be honest, there’s so much to do I’m not sure where to begin. I started by backing up my Tumblr blog and hadn’t realized just how many images I’d had over there. I’ve already used up my alloted media and rather than get more (which I can’t afford to do at the moment), I’m trying to edit the posts so the images will be hosted off-site. I’ve got a lot of them already up on my Imgur account so I’d like to replace the copies here in my media with the ones hosted there to free up some room. Only thing is I’m not sure how to format the posts so they still look like galleries. The “image” blocks don’t seem to give you that option, and the “gallery” blocks only allow you to use images uploaded from your computer or in your media already. I contacted Support the other day and didn’t get a response…maybe I didn’t phrase the request clearly. I’ll see what I can do in the meantime, I guess. I may start by deleting some of the posts I feel are kind of irrelevant or ones that have duplicate pics, again to free up some of my media space.

I still plan to make episode picspams here, just as soon as I can figure out the layout to make it look like a gallery with the “image” blocks. If anyone has any tips on how to do that, please comment or contact me to let me know. I’d really appreciate it.

I also plan to hopefully post some reviews and other fannish stuff here, so please bear with me.

The Journey Begins

Thanks for joining me! This blog was created primarily as a backup of my Tumblr blog, but thanks to their insistence on flagging my completely innocent photo posts as “adult content”, I’m going to make more photo-intensive posts here. I’m not giving up the Tumblr blog completely, but this will be like a second home of sorts. If you’re a fan of Doctor Who, I hope you enjoy reading here! Not only will I have picspams, but hopefully news items, reviews, fanfiction updates/recommendations and the like. If you’ve got any comments please feel free to post them. I enjoy making friends with like-minded fans.

The blog is staying, BUT…

Over the past few days I’ve been thinking hard about this blog and how Tumblr has been singling out my photo posts to be flagged for “adult content.” I’ve appealed and most of my posts have been reinstated, but one is still stuck in “review” for more than a day.

I’ve been reading about what apparently triggers them to flag posts and one of them is photo posts with lots of pics, even if they are completely innocent (some interesting info about that here). Since I make a lot of these, at least 2 per day going in order the various serials, I’ve decided what might work best…

I’ll still make photo posts from the episodes here with maybe 2 photos at most (supposedly you can get away with this, but multiple photos are more likely to get the posts flagged). But I also think it’s a good idea to back up this blog to WordPress and I can make more extensive episode screencap posts over there. I don’t foresee them deleting this blog but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

I’ll also continue the “Caption This!” posts here as they don’t seem to get singled out either. I’d just like to have an alternative until this flagging madness dies down a little.
